Well, the 2012 Iceman is kicking off and I am not there. It’s been a pretty difficult week. I was on the fence about going to cheer on my friends and team mates, but in the end I decided to stay home and spend some much needed time with my family.

I have taken a pretty big step in my training for the 2013 Iceman Cometh race. Over the past week I have taken a pretty huge step. I enrolled in a physician supervised weight loss program. The great thing is that my new doctor is actually a triathlete! I also have a coach who is a fitness instructor and two nurses that are helping me along the way.

There is no way that I ever want to be sitting here in Toledo when the Iceman race is happening. It’s a crazy mixed bag of negative feelings. I am gonna train hard this year and do whatever it takes to come back next year. So that I never have to be alone in Toledo like this thinking and wishing well for Ben, Mark, and Team Hotdog.

See You In 2013!

So, I am not going to dwell on this for too long. This will be the last time that I take up space on the subject. The 2012 Iceman is two weeks away and I will not be racing this year. It seems like it one one problem after another and spread out just enough to throw up some serious roadblocks in my training. I am not going to go into huge detail for a number of reasons but the largest of them, is privacy. Also my Job ate a huge portion of my life and the amount of hours coupled with a lack of rest posed a pretty huge problem, but I had to do it to make up for 8 years of a 130 round trip commute and the toll that it took on family life and finances. I can say that I am going to keep pressing on and make the 2013 Iceman Cometh a priority.

I’m lucky, real lucky to have hooked up with Team Hot Dog. Almost all of my interaction with them has been online, but that is changing too. A couple of people on the team that I have been sharing my junk with have been incredibly cool. As well as some other people that I have met through this site. I am still stoked on riding and maintaining an active life.

2013 Iceman Here I Come!!

I have always been a sucker for old road bikes. I love Raleighs, Puegeots, Fujis, well pretty much anything with a lugged steel frame. The problem is that I was collecting way too many of them. In April I purchased a completely redone Puegeot and set it up as a Touring bike. I had planned to ride the Tour D’Cure on it, but as mentioned earlier this year I was having some medical problems that prevented me from riding as much as I wanted to. Then as I was browsing the local bikes on Craigslist I saw a vintage Motobecane Nomade II that I just had to buy.

Recently I just kind of decided that now was the time to get serious again. My problems were clearing up and the overtime and work had slowed down. I had way too many bikes that I liked but nothing really that I loved. I tend to get overly obsessed with things and just fizzle out, and then have a huge supply of stuff from whatever it was that I was into. There was never really any danger of my interest in bikes petering out, but I was kinda frustrated because neither one of my road bikes were perfect.

While perusing the Ann Arbor Craigslist I came upon an ad for a 1999 Bianchi Eros, which is a steel frame bike with lower end Campagnolo components so I called the guy took it for a ride, fell in love, sold my other two road bikes, and then bought the Bianchi. Boy it makes a huge difference riding a bike that you love. The oddest thing is that it feels like the bike was made for me. I am ready to log miles as long as I am able to! Here goes training for my century, only a year late.

myroadtoiceman is merging with my other lesser known blog riddenwords and we are completely redesigning everything! All posts are actually going to be edited by someone other than myself. Why? Because I never proofread, but then again if you are one the loyal readers of this blog, you have probably already noticed. Big things are ahead. Here is a pic of my new DJ bike and below are a few videos from my last trip to Rays. Hopefully within two weeks we will be up and running!

This is Shelly her first day of riding a DJ. She is progressing so much! I am so proud

I could spend all day in the sport section at Ray’s seriously!
